There may be additional fees for the following:

Once the CRNA receives all the completed items, the processing time is four to six weeks. You can check the status of your application at any time inside of College Connect.

If you have previously created an account with the CRNA, you do not need to pay the assessment fee again. Contact the CRNA to start this application.

Provisional permits allow you to work as a graduate nurse (GN) or graduate nurse practitioner (GNP) under certain conditions while you work to meet the requirement of writing and passing the NCLEX-RN exam. You cannot practise in Alberta either before the effective date or after the expiry date of your provisional permit, including orientation.

Certain parameters apply to a provisional permit, including:

  • Provisional permits are issued for a maximum of six months at a time, for a total of twelve months within two years of completing your education program.
  • The effective date starts the day your provisional permit is issued. An automated email will be sent one month before the initial six-month period ends, with the option to renew for an additional six months.
  • If you submit an application without first passing the NCLEX-RN exam, your provisional permit will be issued on the effective permit date you select in your application.
  • A provisional permit authorizes you to use the title graduate nurse (GN) or graduate nurse practitioner (GNP) while the permit is in effect. You may not call yourself a registered nurse (RN) or nurse practitioner (NP) in Alberta until you have met all the requirements for RN or NP registration in Alberta and the CRNA has issued a full practice permit to you.

Upon successful completion of the NCLEX-RN exam, you will be removed from the provisional register and issued a full practice permit.

If you do not want a provisional permit, please wait to submit your application until you are ready to request to write the NCLEX-RN. You can request an authorization to test (ATT) by navigating to the Registrant Services section in College Connect. You can be exam eligible while your application is still in progress.
