The CRNA’s Council Welcomes Incoming Chair

June 24, 2026

At its June 12, 2026 regular meeting, the CRNA’s Council announced that Councillor Grace Brittain has been named Council Chair for a two-year term, effective Oct. 1, 2026.

Councillor Brittain was first appointed as a registrant member of the CRNA’s Council in 2023 and reappointed for a second three-year term at the June 2026 Council meeting.

After being announced as the incoming Chair, Councillor Brittain stated, “These are exciting times for the profession, and I look forward to working collaboratively with Council to meet our mandate of public safety and providing a good resource and support to the registrants.”

Councillor Brittain takes over from current Chair Justin Burkett, who was first appointed to the position in 2022. Under Councillor Burkett's leadership as Chair, Council has guided the CRNA through a significant period of change and achievement. This has included advancing a Right-touch relational approach to regulation, strengthening governance and performance measurement, supporting important registration innovations for internationally educated nurses, overseeing the continued evolution of standards and regulatory programs, supporting nurse practitioner regulatory modernization, and maintaining a clear focus on safe, competent and ethical nursing care for Albertans.

The CRNA thanks Councillor Burkett for his four years of thoughtful, principled and steady leadership as Council Chair and looks forward to continued collaboration during the remainder of his second term as a Council member.
