Annual Permit Renewals

The CRNA's renewal window for 2026-2027 permits is now open — registrants are required to renew their permits annually to practise in Alberta.

Key Dates Related to Permit Renewal

Renewal Period: Aug. 1, 2026 to Sept. 30, 2026
Practice Year: Oct. 1, 2026 to Sept. 30, 2027

Permit Fee Information

The CRNA’s permit fee structure for the 2026–2027 practice year includes a reduction in fees for all permit types compared to the previous practice year. The permit fee will be $460.00 (plus GST).

While some employers may cover the cost of permit fees for employees, it is each applicant or registrant’s responsibility to ensure their initial or renewal application is complete, including payment. The CRNA issues payment receipts for all completed permit applications and renewal applications. All CRNA registrants with completed applications can download these payment receipts in their College Connect accounts.

Working Together to Protect the Public

A clear, consistent annual permit renewal process is a key way the CRNA delivers on its mandate to protect the public.

Together with many other collaborators in the health-care ecosystem, our efforts ensure that only licensed individuals are practising. To support employers and other partners in meeting their responsibilities on this front, the CRNA provides several resources.

Permit Verification

Employers are responsible for ensuring their employees have an active practice permit. Employers can verify the permit statuses of their employee using the CRNA's Nurse Verification Tool for Employers. The verification tool retrieves the registration statuses of multiple individuals at the same time and sends the results directly to an employer's email. Registration is required to use the free verification tool.

Note: when verifying employee permit statuses, ensure you are using the CRNA's verification tool. The CRNA does not support any third-party permit verification tools or services.

Additionally, employers have an obligation to report any employees licensed by the CRNA who are not meeting the Standards of Practice. All complaints received by the CRNA are reviewed according to our complaints management process.
