Required Courses

To apply to the CRNA, you are required to:

Complete an eLearning course on jurisprudence.
Complete an eLearning course called Protecting Patients from Sexual Abuse and Misconduct.
Complete the CDS Jurisprudence course (for nurse practitioners only).
Complete a CDS prescribing education course (for nurse practitioners only).

Courses Overview

The mandatory Protecting Patients from Sexual Abuse and Misconduct course covers expectations for the nursing profession and its relationships with patients. The knowledge and application of these expectations by registrants will help to protect patients from sexual abuse and misconduct.

Watch a two-and-a-half-minute video tutorial
Read three modules with knowledge checks, reflection activities, and practice quizzes at the end of each module
You may attempt practice quiz questions twice within these modules
Complete a final quiz

Completion requirements

Read the Protection of Patients from Sexual Abuse and Sexual Misconduct Standards
Watch a two-and-a-half-minute video tutorial
Read three modules
Complete a final quiz (19 true or false, multiple choice and multiple response questions) with a score of 100 per cent
The quiz must be taken in one sitting or you must start over
You may retake the quiz until you pass

Jurisprudence provides you with the regulatory framework that guides nursing practice under the Health Professions Act (HPA). This framework enables you to understand how the HPA, Registered Nurses Profession Regulation, standards of practice, bylaws and organizational policies impact and support nursing practice in Alberta. This course aims to help you understand key legislation and apply the regulatory framework to your nursing practice in Alberta.
