Role Overview

As part of our commitment to excellence in nursing regulation, we are seeking an Investigator to join our Professional Conduct team. This position ensures complaints are investigated impartially and in accordance with the HPA, maintains the integrity of the investigative process, and supports compliance with regulatory and privacy legislation.

By conducting thorough and fair investigations, the Investigator supports informed decision making in the complaints process, strengthens public confidence in nursing regulation, and contributes to the CRNA's role as a trusted and effective regulator.

Complaint Investigation and Case Management

Use a case management approach to manage assigned investigations.
Maintain ongoing communication with registrants and complainants, and provide 60-day updates as required.
Interview registrants, complainants and witnesses, as appropriate.
Conduct investigations in accordance with the HPA, Health Information Act, privacy legislation and the CRNA's policies and procedures.
Maintain confidentiality and security of investigation documents and equipment.
Consider and manage risks in all situations and maintain personal safety.

Investigation Reporting and Documentation

Provide impartial documentation of all interviews.
Collect relevant documents (policies, clinical records, employer documentation) to support information provided by witnesses.
Communicate any issues that arise regarding management of the investigation to the Complaints Director and people leader.

Collaboration and Support

Communicate conduct processes with complainants and registrants.
Provide updates on investigations to the Complaints Director and/or Associate Complaints Director.
Perform other assigned duties as requested.

Process Improvement and Resource Management

Keep abreast of investigation information, resources, equipment, tools and technical developments to ensure investigation capacity is current.
Contribute to continuous improvement of the investigation process and experience of the investigated registrant, complainant, witnesses and partners.
Maintain current documents and reports on SharePoint.

Education

Diploma/bachelor's degree in nursing, other health-related field or in another relevant discipline is required.
Active nursing permit and in good standing.

Experience

Minimum seven years of nursing experience.
Experience with regulatory investigations or professional conduct processes considered an asset.

Communication and Conflict Resolution: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with demonstrated ability in interviewing, active listening and resolving conflict.
Independence and Prioritization: Proven ability to work autonomously, manage multiple priorities and adapt scheduling to meet demands.
Integrity and Professionalism: Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and applying regulatory standards consistently.
Technical Proficiency: Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365, SharePoint and virtual collaboration tools.
Continuous Improvement: Willingness to identify and implement process improvements in the investigation function.
