The annual permit renewal period is open for registrants of the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA).
Every year from Aug. 1 to Sept. 30, registrants of the CRNA who currently have a practice permit and want to continue practising in the province must apply to renew their permit.
As part of this process, they must meet all of the requirements, which indicate they are able to continue to provide care in a competent, safe and ethical manner.
If a registrant's renewal application is approved, they can continue practising in the 2025-2026 practice year, which runs from Oct. 1, 2025, to Sept. 30, 2026. If a permit is denied or expires due to non-renewal, the individual can no longer work under a protected title or designation in Alberta. In these cases, eligible individuals who wish to continue practising in Alberta must then submit a return to practice application.
The annual renewal process is one of the ways the CRNA protects the public through regulation of the nursing profession. At any time, the public can search the list of registrants with active permits via the Find a Nurse Tool.
