Recruitment for the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta's (CRNA) Council and regulatory committees opens on Jan. 15, 2024.
Council and regulatory committees play an important role in fulfilling the CRNA's mandate of regulating our registrants in the public interest. You can learn more about the CRNA's mandate on our How We Operate page, the role and functions of Council on our Governance page and the mandates of our regulatory committees on the regulatory committees page.
The CRNA recruits to fill vacancies on Council and its regulatory committees using a competency-based selection process to ensure the best individuals are selected to complement the existing skillsets on Council and regulatory committees.
The recruitment and appointment processes for new Council and committee members are similar. Interested individuals submit an expression of interest form, which includes questions about the applicant’s competencies (skills, knowledge and experience) and attributes. Incumbent members of Council and regulatory committees who are eligible and seek reappointment follow the same process as new applicants.
All expressions of interest will be reviewed through a rigorous selection process and screened for the required qualifications and competencies. Qualified applicants will be contacted for interviews. Following interviews, the Nominating Committee will identify qualified candidates to recommend to Council for appointment.
The CRNA's competency-based selection process focuses on the appointment of individuals with the required competencies, as well as ensuring that a range of diverse perspectives are represented. We don’t expect any individual to have all the competencies we are looking for — each member brings their unique background and competencies that contribute to collective discussion and decision-making.
The Competencies and Attributes Profiles for Council and regulatory committees can be viewed in the Council and Committees Selection Policy. The Nominating Committee maintains current profiles for Council and regulatory committees and reviews them annually. Each year, current Councillors and committee members self-assess against the profiles, and data is collected to identify areas where there are strengths and areas where there are gaps.
The CRNA's recruitment priorities are informed and guided by this assessment to fill gaps across the Council and committee profiles. The Nominating Committee then looks to fill those gaps. For example, they might be looking for someone with financial expertise or strategic planning or leadership experience. The Nominating Committee also considers the applications to ensure Council and regulatory committees have diverse experience, backgrounds and perspectives.
When recruitment opens on Jan. 15, 2024, expression of interest forms (applications) will be posted on the CRNA website. Applications will be accepted until 11:59 pm (MST) Feb. 1, 2024.
We will be looking for:
The CRNA actively recruits during a short window of time. You can prepare in advance by reviewing the Competency and Attribute Profiles for Council or the regulatory committee you are interested in and considering how your unique perspective will help you contribute to fulfilling the CRNA's mandate. Do not be deterred or discouraged from expressing your interest in serving on Council or a committee just because you do not have all of the competencies listed in the profiles — you may be exactly what the College is looking for!
