Governance

The College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) is a regulatory organization. Registrants and the public work together as equal partners in a transparent governance structure.

The Council that governs the CRNA is accountable for and oversees the CRNA’s activities. The Council:

  • Makes governance policies and bylaws
  • Adopts standards of practice and codes of ethics
  • Sets registration and practice permit fees
  • Appoints the CEO and Registrar
  • Hears appeals of hearing decisions

The governance structure of the CRNA ensures the Council's mandate is successful through clear delegation of their authority using a co-governance model with committees. The Council delegates day-to-day work of some of the legislative responsibilities to three governance committees and seven regulatory committees.
